Become an International HR Manager

This program provides students with a deep understanding of global HR management and an insight into the impact and challenges of digital transformation on HR today.

Our mission: To equip managers with the tools and knowledge to work in HR anywhere in the world, in any company. These managers will have the skills to boost corporate performance through the effective management of the company’s workforce and the ability to adapt their organization for the future, both on a human and on a digital level.

The program explores how HR strategy fits into overall corporate strategy, the key differences between International Human Resource Management (IHRM) and domestic HRM, and the skills required to recruit, manage and enhance talent. It is designed for graduates who wish to pursue management careers at national and international levels.

Participants will develop the know-how and competencies to identify and understand the HR issues facing business today and develop appropriate strategies to ensure that effective people management strategies create competitive advantage and sources of value.

Because the human element remains fundamental in HRM, rather than focus on the digitalization of HR, this program provides a unique analysis of digital transformation - its impact and challenges.

Pedagogy

A full two-year program with more than 400 hours of taught classes including the latest managerial theory, real-world case examples and practical experience. Students typically have 12-15 hours class time per week supplemented by around 30 hours group work and private study. The MSc offers up to 12 months’ work experience and 4 distinct international study / work opportunities. This includes a study trip and one-semester exchange option and two internship possibilities. An academic dissertation enables deep and insightful analysis of one of key issues or challenges faced by organizations today. The strong diversity of faculty and students reinforces the international dimension of the program.

Evaluation

The validation of skills and competences is acquired through continuous assessment, assignments, exams, and professional experience. Both written and oral communication skills are fully assessed throughout the program.

MSc Academic Dissertation

The specialized academic dissertation is one of the core components of the second year of the program. Students begin in September and will complete it by the end of the academic year.

The academic dissertation asks students to understand and analyze a key business or managerial issue. Students first undertake an extensive review of our current knowledge of the issue through an in-depth literature review. Working with their tutor, students then identify an area that requires further exploration (Research Gap) and a methodology for filling that knowledge gap (Research Design). Students will undertake original research (Data Collection) to fill the pre-defined gap before writing up their findings and considering their personal contribution to the chosen research domain. This includes an analysis of the academic and practical / managerial implications of their research.

With 100 active permanent researchers, eight research teams, more than 200 doctoral students, Grenoble EM is one of the leaders in management research in Europe. Students will thus be assigned a specialised academic tutor with considerable experience of this type of research as well as knowledge of the field or domain to be studied. Students may also adopt a wide range of different research methodologies to reinforce the intellectual skills that will be required by their future employer. Certain research by previous students has been published.


Semester exchange in accredited GEM partner

The international exchange option is one of the four international opportunities offered to Grenoble EM MSc students during the two-year program. With nearly 40 years of international development experience, Grenoble EM is able to offer exchange options from its prestigious network of more than 125 partner institutions.

The full one semester exchange is situated during the autumn semester of year two of the program. Students who successfully complete year one will be eligible to apply for this exchange. Applications are completed in the early Spring of year 1. Confirmation of the exchange offer will be made later that same semester.

Students complete a full credit semester on program than has been pre-validated by Grenoble EM. Chosen courses are designed to strengthen the specialization that they have chosen. Credits from this tailored-made semester will then be transferred back to the Grenoble EM MSc and thus count for the final degree award.

Additional travel costs / accommodation etc. are be met by the students.

Foreign Languages

Operating in an international environment requires foreign language fluency and therefore a foreign language module is an option on the program for all students.

Non-French speakers may study French (beginner to advanced level). This option is highly advised for those who are looking to become professionals in France. French speakers may choose from a number of other languages at beginner level.

Study Trip

Students on the program will participate in a 2-day HR study trip, to visit differents kinds of organizations. Previously students met with P&G (Procter & Gamble), ILO (International Labour Organization), UNICEF and WTO (World Trade Organization).

Live Business Case

The Live Business Case (LBC) gives the students the opportunity to apply their learning directly to a real HR issue offered by a participating company. Students will work in teams and develop their LBC over several months in parallel to the taught part of the program. They will meet with their assigned company and LBC coach regularly to define and review the objectives of their project and the expected deliverables. The objective of the LBC is for MSC IHRM students to help real companies find innovative solutions to address their HR issues and enable them to improve their HR process.

These will strengthen the employability profiles of graduates to help them achieve their career goals. You will be encouraged to develop your professional skills through a series of innovative learning activities. By taking part in real-life professional experimentations and in GEM’s renowned “serious games”, you will be encouraged to develop your soft skills (teamwork, presentation, negotiation, leadership).

This program is suitable for graduates from a wide range of disciplines. Prospective students should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the motivation to pursue an international career. Work experience is not compulsory, but an internship in HR before starting the program is recommended.

Experienced managers already working in HR positions will also benefit from this program by acquiring a formal qualification and training in the theory and concepts needed to advance their HR careers.

The GMAT is not required for this program.

To ensure Grenoble Ecole de Management is the right fit for you, you may be asked to participate in an interview. You will be notified if an interview is necessary after the Admission Board meets.

Student Program Fees

MSc International Human Resource Management in the Digital Age
Paris campus: €19,950 for full 2-year program*

*Fees include an annual €250 student service and administrative fee calculated for the 2-year program. Fees are subject to change. Please verify program fees each year before commencement. 

Program fees include:

  • Tuition, project supervision, and access to GEM facilities
  • Travel and accommodation for the Study Trip**. Please note that students are responsible for the payment and arrangement of a visa if necessary.

Program fees do not cover accommodation, meals, insurance, visa, and personal expenses.

Note

All academic qualifications, including those earned at GEM, are recognized at the discretion of each country or university. Students seeking admission to a further course of study or who wish to work in specific country after their GEM program may need to have their GEM degree certified through a process specified by the receiving authority. 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Visa requirements may apply to International Students in order to study or work in France. All international students are expected to verify requirements with their local French consulate and plan accordingly. Grenoble Ecole de Management has no influence over this process.
